The first classes in East Wyndmere were held above the Hilliard Store. The first schoolhouse, known as Danton #4, was built a block north of the present school grounds.

Believed to have been taken in 1903, Jim Stair was teacher.

Earl School was erected in the fall of 1903 at the cost of $7,300.00. It was named in memory of Earl, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Campbell, who also donated the bell which formerly hung in the school tower, and the land. The first term in the new building began January 4, 1904 with seventy pupils. W.R. Stears was principal.

In 1914, because of demand for more and better courses, the board of education decided to build an addition, providing more classroom space and a gymnasium.
In 1916 the first class of seven members graduated from Wyndmere High School.
1923 found an enrollment of eighty high school students and a graduating class of twenty, a number equal to the total high school enrollment in 1919.
In 1923 the classrooms were crowded, therefore plans were made to build a high school building attached gymnasium. The building with its equipment cost $40,000.00.

On August 1, 1924 Wyndmere High School received a first class rating by the North Central College Association of Standardizing Agencies. The first superintendent in the new school was Elmer Skeie, who had been with the school system since 1921.
There was a gradual fluctuation of enrollment. From 1950 on there was a gradual increase until 1959-1960, due to reorganization of the school district, the enrollment made a jump to one hundred forty-seven in high school and four hundred forty-one in the grades.
In September, 1958 it was voted to reorganize the school district bringing in townships and parts of townships adjacent to the original Special School District.
In 1959 four rural schools were moved onto the campus, three were used as classrooms and one as an office for the superintendent. That year the decision was made that a junior-senior high school building was necessary to take care of the present and future needs. On February 10, 1960 an election was held to provide for an increase of the debt limit, for the purchase of school buses and to issue bonds for a new building. The measure passed. In September, 1960 ground was broken.
In 1962 the building was completed and through June 23, 24 and 25 there was a reunion of all Wyndmere High School Alumni and dedication of the building. Since then reunions have been held regularly and have been well attended.
Because cost of upkeep and repairs, the board decided that it would be cheaper to raze the Earl School and the old high school and have an addition added to the junior-senior high school. This was completed in 1984. The building is all one story, making it advantageous to the handicapped.
